Capstone Reflection

From just walking through and looking at all the capstone projects, I was blown away about a few things.  Some I don't want to share because I will using those ideas for MY capstone and they will help me shine.  The students were all so friendly and it was amazing to see to great art by some extremely talented students!!  The show also gave me more motivation for my project and just keep trying and pushing harder, no matter what!!!

Capstone Reviews 2012 N420

Nate Moody

1.      Why did you choose this for your capstone project?
He wanted to really explore different skills.  Mostly his story telling skills using a more fine arts approach.
2.      What are some of the changes that you had to make between your original idea and what you are presenting today?
Not much.  He said something about one project being too long.
3.      What is your opinion of the timeline for your capstone? Was it helpful or a waste of time? Why?
He didn’t really use his timeline.  He kind of just “shot from the hip” on his capstone.
4.      If you could change anything about your capstone, what would that be?
He wanted more material to print on.  And more money of course.
5.      What advice would you give me in planning for my capstone?
Basically  Murphy’s Law.  Prepare for anything that can go wrong

Capstone Timeline

I put quite a bit of thought into my Capstone Timeline let alone my project.  I looked at the entire timeline as a whole and decided how I was going to break up my project into smaller managable pieces.  I have decided to do 10 high resolution and highly detailed models.  Before the semester started, I plan to have ALL models at least started on BEFORE the beginning of the semester.  This way, each week of the capstone semester, I can simply rework the and add more detail to my models each week.  And each week of the capstone semester I have dedicated to 1 to 3 models for retouch and finishing.  Finally, the last two weeks of the semester I have devoted to creating and rendering my final video which will basically be a showcase of my models.

Capstone Ideas Sept 3, 2012

I have a few ideas for my capstone project.

11.        I create a 3D animated short story with very simple characters.  The story will be that of a guy who has a horrible day in corporate America.  For example, he gets stuck in traffic, he forgets his work ID to get in, someone parked in his assigned parking spot, he gets rained on, there are tons of people on his elevator and the elevator stops at every floor until finally reaching his floor on a very tall high rise.  Finally, he sits at his cubical only to discover his office is closed for the day. Ha!

      2.     I create a 3D animated trailer of a screen play I wrote.  It’s a great story of a man who was crossed by his army buddies.  Things get out of control when Jon Maze, the star of the movie, girlfriend is brutally raped and murdered right in front of him.  To make things worse, Maze is framed for the murder.  Fortunately, It doesn’t take maze, number one special forces killer in the world, to break out of prison and begin killing those murders who killed his girl one by one in a suspenseful series of calculated and sometimes gruesome attacks.

    3. My main talent and focus is 3D modeling.  So I was also considering doing a showcase of my EXTREMELY detailed 3D models.  Everything from cars, motorcycles, to people, weapons, and animals.

Capstone

I believe what a capstone is, at least in our terms, is the culmination of one’s entire college career into one very large, complex, and amazing project.  I feel extremely nervous about my capstone.  I am still at “writer’s block” and I only have two semesters left.  I do believe that this experience will be eye-opening for me.  I will have the opportunity to really let my mind and imagination run wild!!!  I will gain an incredible amount of experience.
And as far as spending two full semesters on this…honestly, I don’t think it’s enough time; but for something so important to the future development of your career as an artist, you have to take all the time possible.  Our capstone, to the outside person or employer, is who we are as an artist.  It displays all of our skills and most important, it showcases our talent!  This is extremely critical to sell yourself after college.

I'm looking forward to starting my Capstone!!!
